An Important Message From Bill

Bill with family members on Christmas Day 2011
(3 months after pancreatic cancer diagnosis)

Bill said that if he beat his cancer, he was going to dedicate the rest of his life to helping other people who were in the type of situation.  He knew the fear, hopelessness, uncertainty, and financial issues associated with cancer, especially pancreatic cancer.  He also knew how important it was to have a good source of support.  He told us many times, "I feel that God has something special for me to do."

Bill was so overwhelmed by the love and kindness of the people who rallied around him and were there for him; so much so, that he called everyone together at a family gathering on Christmas Day, 2011, laid his heart on his sleeve, and with heartfelt emotion and tears streaming down his face, said, “I just can’t believe how many people are letting me know how much they love me and care, and how many people are praying for me, even people I don’t.  I just never knew that so many people cared and were willing to do so many things for me so unselfishly.  I just never knew, and never realized it before.  I just want to say thank you for being there for me and for being my friends and family.”

Many people were deeply moved by this extraordinary man and his life.  For those who loved him,  a new mission was wrought. A mission of hope, and a mission to end the suffering and senseless death of so many, due to a disease whose treatment progress and programs are decades behind other less life-threatening diseases.

The William Hugh Schalk Pancreatic Foundation is committed to working with some of the best scientists and organizations in the world to wipe out this killer disease.  We are  doing this by engaging loving, caring people, spreading the word, instilling hope, and working hard to make a meaningful difference in the the world.
